Kash O’Hara, the powerhouse stylist behind Australian stylist agency ‘Style Doctors’, demonstrates 5 ways to wear a tailored jacket.
The Tailored jacket is an essential item in a woman’s wardrobe and it’s not just for the corporate woman. The tailored jacket is a trans-seasonal piece and a very versatile piece that will last you forever if you choose the right one for you.
I always advise my clients that it’s worth investing in a good tailored jacket because when you pay for a jacket in a beautiful fabric, a great cut and one that’s made well, you will have it for years to come and it’s a piece you can dress up or down. That’s exactly why I love The Aurum Collective tailored jacket because the fabric and cut is amazing and it’s one of the very few labels that can boast it’s Australian made.
If you haven’t got a tailored black jacket in your wardrobe then I suggest you start with a black one and then you can add another one in a different colour or even a printed tailored jacket.
To prove how versatile a tailored jacket is, I have styled it 5 different ways to show you looks for work worn with either a pair of pants or a skirt suit, a casual look worn with denim shots, a smart casual/ evening look that you could wear on casual Fridays at work or out for drinks or dinner, and even over a more feminine look worn with a dress.
LOOK 1 – THE SUIT
Wearing your tailored jacket by The Aurum Collective with the matching tailored pants is smart corporate look that you can wear all year round. Change up the look by wearing different coloured tops or shirts, or even change the look by wearing different coloured shoes and bags. I’ve styled this look with a wool tee from The Aurum Collective, a Daily Edited Tote that you can monogram with your initials and some Wittner pumps.
LOOK 2 – THE SKIRT
When wearing your jacket with ‘The Aurum Collective’ black skirt you can play around with colours and have fun with your accessories. I’ve paired it back with some beautiful red heels from Alexandre Birman to make more of a statement with colour. You could also play around with colour in your top or even your bag too to add your personal style to a black suit.
LOOK 3 – DENIM SHORTS
To smarten up your day look, you can wear your ‘The Aurum Collective’ tailored jacket with your favourite denim shorts. I’ve paired this look back with some Adidas sneakers and a large State of Escape bag but you could easily wear this look with heels and a smaller bag to take a day look into the night.
LOOK 4 – DENIM JEANS
I love wearing a tailored jacket with a pair of jeans because it automatically makes your look more stylish. Similar to the denim shots look you can easily make this a day or night look by wearing flats or heels. This is a great look for casual Friday, a date night look, drinks with the girls or dinner with friends.
LOOK 5 – THE DRESS
A nice tailored jacket can be worn with most dresses and I especially love ‘The Aurum Collective’ fitted midi-length dress. You could wear almost any coloured accessories with this look but I’ve opted for a neutral colour palette of nudes, gold and white. The dress makes it a feminine look but adding the jacket keeps it professional for work but also acts as something to keep you warm on cooler autumn/ winter days. This is also a great racewear look, a ladies lunch or evening look.
If you’re not sure what styles will suit you or what colours to wear then I always say when in doubt wear black, white or navy. If you’re still not sure you can always contact one of our Style Doctors via our website www.thestyledoctor.com.au.
